LOWERING HEALTH COSTS WHILE ENHANCING EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

City of Oviedo’s onsite health center operated by Crowne Consulting Group helps employer improve employee healthcare while lowering medical trend increases.

Feb. 28, 2012 (Ocoee, Fla.) – Crowne Consulting Group, Inc., an employee benefits consulting firm specializing in onsite health and wellness centers in Florida, reports that the City of Oviedo reduced health cost trends by adding a worksite health center for employees.

Since opening the center in March of 2010 in an effort to avoid passing increased health costs to city workers, the City of Oviedo reversed its trend down to just a 2 percent annual increase.  This defies the nation’s average 12 percent annual rise for medical inflation.  Financial savings include all operational costs for the health center, which is co-operated by Ocoee-based Crowne Consulting Group and Tennessee-based CareHere, LLC.

City Manager Kathryn Breazeale believes that over the past two years, employees benefited by receiving free generic medication and health and wellness services provided through the clinic.

Approximately 85 percent of the city’s 245 eligible employees visited the free clinic in the first year for more than 3,000 service appointments including primary care, screenings, chronic disease management, digital X-rays, EKG, and occupational services.  In addition to zero deductibles for services, 80 percent of the city’s employees benefited from free health risk assessments with lab work for evaluation of cholesterol, blood sugar, liver function, and blood pressure.

“Assessing risks early and engaging employees to manage conditions is a contributing factor to thousands of dollars saved for employees and taxpayers,” said Ray Tomlinson, president of Crowne Consulting Group.

In addition, thanks to wholesale rates, the city’s total prescription costs through Crowne and CareHere decreased 8 percent per member.

How Easier Access to Healthcare Lowers Costs

Crowne Consulting Group reports onsite health centers reduce risks and cut costs.

Jan. 18, 2012 (Ocoee, Fla.) – For a large number of governments and municipalities in Florida, employee health centers are just what the doctor ordered.  Adopting the onsite health model is improving quality of employee healthcare while decreasing costs.

Crowne Consulting Group, Inc. collaborates with Tennessee-based CareHere, LLC to operate 23 employee health and wellness centers throughout Florida.  Ray Tomlinson, president of Crowne Consulting Group, explains why easier access translates to lower costs for employers

1)     Worksite health services reduce “time off” and increase incentives to seek medical care.

2)     Employees pay zero copays and no deductibles, preventing delays for financial reasons.

Approximately 96 percent of the City of Ocoee’s more than 300 eligible employees utilized HRAs and wellness programs offered at its health center, helping the city prevent high-dollar claims for chronic diseases including diabetes and congestive heart failure.

Prior to hiring Crowne in April 2008, Ocoee faced annual premium increases of 15-24 percent.  Over 6,800 visits at the Ocoee health center and nearly 1000 more visits at its partner center in the City of Apopka occurred within the first two years, saving the city more than $1 million, including more than a 70 percent decrease in workers’ compensation medical costs.

Nov. 29, 2011 (Ocoee, Fla.) – Crowne Consulting Group, Inc., an employee benefits consulting firm, reports that employee health and wellness centers are the growing trend among central Florida employers to combat rising health costs.

According to an October 17 Gallup Poll, unhealthy U.S. workers’ absenteeism costs $153 billion in lost productivity annually.  About 86 percent of full-time workers are above normal weight or have at least one chronic condition, and they’re missing an estimated 450 million days of work each year.

Sept. 27, 2011 (Ocoee, Fla.)Crowne Consulting Group, Inc., an employee benefits consulting firm specializing in onsite health and wellness centers in Florida, reports that an onsite health center has helped the City of Ocala gain control of its healthcare costs.

The Crowne Consulting Group collaborates with Tennessee-based CareHere, LLC to operate 23 centers throughout Florida. Third-party operators ensure that employee medical services remain confidential and HIPAA compliant.

Prior to hiring Crowne and CareHere to operate its health center in April 2009, the City of Ocala faced annual premium increases of 15-27 percent. The city’s total healthcare spend has now leveled out to approximately 3.7 percent yearly increases, thus, defying the nation’s average 12 percent annual rise in health costs.

“We’ve been able to save tax payer dollars and flatten the cost trend by assessing risks early and having a healthier, more productive workforce,” said Jared Sorensen, director of HR and risk management for the city. “There is also ease in getting to the clinic, and
the staff provides friendly, quick, efficient care.”

Approximately 90 percent of the city’s 880 eligible employees utilized the free clinic in the last year for services including primary care, screenings, chronic disease management, X-rays, wellness programs, and occupational services. Employees pay zero copays and no deductibles.

“There are free generic prescriptions available onsite to meet employee’s needs without them having to wait in line somewhere else,” said Sorensen.

Buying prescriptions at wholesale costs helped the city, which is self-funded, cut its prescription costs 15 percent since opening the onsite center.

Employees also have access to free health risk assessments, which include lab work and an evaluation of health factors including cholesterol, blood sugar, liver function, and blood pressure.

“Assessments, wellness initiatives, exercise coaches, dieticians, and smoking cessation programs inspire healthy lifestyles and help us avoid higher cost claims,” said Sorensen. “As for risk management, the clinic is also our first line of contact for workers’ compensation claims.”

August 22, 2011 (Ocoee, Fla.) – Crowne Consulting Group, Inc., an employee benefits consulting firm specializing in on-site employee health and wellness centers in Florida, announces that the School District of Lake County’s employee health and wellness center opened its
doors last week.

Superintendent Dr. Susan Moxley, school board members Debbie Stivender and Rosanne Brandeburg, Senator Alan Hays, Crowne and CareHere executives, Blue Cross & Blue Shield representatives, Educational Foundation of Lake County representatives, and other government officials took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony held Aug. 17. The ceremony was followed by a public open house at the center, located at 1910 Titcomb St., Eustis.

The district plans to open a second center in early 2012 to provide convenient access across the county.

The center will service the district’s population of more than 6,500 employees, dependents, and retirees. Services will include primary care, occupational services, pharmacy, disease management, and wellness services along with the benefits of zero copays, free screenings,
and increased physician face-time.

“We’re looking at this as a wellness alternative to provide our employees different healthcare options at no cost. Crowne and CareHere have been nothing but professional. We’re excited about our partnership with them because we’ve seen their success with other school districts,” said Carol MacLeod, chief financial officer for Lake County schools.

Lauren Deridder, risk manager for Lake County schools, added, “Crowne and CareHere have been very professional and are experts at what they do. The center will provide convenient and quick service, and the employees will have quality time with the doctors, less of
wait, and no out-of-pocket expenses.”

The center will be staffed by a physician and other supporting medical staff. In addition to providing primary care, chronic disease management and medication, the center will also focus on providing health risk assessments (HRAs), which is a short health examination to assess a patient’s risk for diseases and conditions.

“Lake County schools is moving in the direction of decreasing healthcare costs and improving quality of care for their employees,” said Ray Tomlinson, president of Crowne Consulting Group.

Crowne Consulting Group collaborates with Tennessee-based CareHere, LLC to operate centers throughout Florida. Lake schools’ health and wellness center is among several new health centers within CareHere’s network of clinics spanning 21 states.

As co-administrators of more than 20 CareHere health centers throughout Florida, Crowne Consulting Group has helped CareHere surpass a milestone of 100 centers nationwide with the recent opening of centers in the City of Deland, St. Lucie County, City of Mount Dora, City of Sarasota, City of Palm Beach Gardens, City of Leesburg, and the School District of Pasco County.
