WELLNESS FOCUS HELPS EMPLOYER DECREASE HELATH COSTS

Florida school district enhances health benefits for 8,000 employees while cutting costs.

April 3, 2012 (Tampa, Fla.) – Rather than passing rising health costs on to employees, Crowne Consulting Group and Med-Vision, LLC helped Pasco County schools discover an innovative approach to cut costs by enhancing healthcare for its more than 8,000 employees.

By coupling onsite health and wellness centers with customized wellness programs to engage employees, Pasco County schools reduced health costs 5 percent last year, saving more than $155,000 per month. The district also flattened its prescription drug costs in 2011, thus defying the average 9.2 percent national rise according to a Segal health plan cost trend survey.

“Med-Vision’s health data analytics and wellness planning in combination with Crowne Consulting Group’s management of our CareHere health centers have been very valuable,” said Mary Tillman, Pasco schools’ director of employee benefits.

For zero deductibles and no costs, employees have free access to primary medical, screenings, lab work, X-rays, EKG, occupational health, wellness programs, disease management, and generic prescriptions.

Crowne Consulting Group assisted Pasco schools in opening three worksite centers in January 2011, and the district is considering adding a fourth later this year. The Crowne Consulting Group is co-administrators of 24 health and wellness centers throughout Florida, helping Tennessee-based partners CareHere, LLC total 100 health centers nationwide.

In addition to operating during hours convenient for employees, the patient-centric medical services allow for 20 minutes with clinic physicians as opposed to the average seven minutes. The operators also ensure patient information is kept confidential, according to HIPAA laws, and administer the district’s workers’ compensation matters and drug testing.

“Crowne Consulting Group and CareHere have been outstanding in setting up and operating our health centers,” said Tillman. “They provided orientations for our employees, and they even offered a prize drawing incentive to encourage utilization.”

Despite being able to access care through their current health plan, nearly half of the employee population visited the worksite centers within the first year. Employees totaled 26,000 medical visits, filled more than 15,000 prescriptions, and benefited from programs such as nutrition and smoking cessation in 2011.

Med-Vision, LLC, a health plan risk management and strategy firm, combed through the district’s health claims to determine what disease management and wellness programs were needed.

“Med-Vision helped write our wellness strategic plan, and they’re guiding our wellness committee in budgeting for doing the most good for employees through targeted health incentives,” said Tillman.

Health programs for 2012 include an “Employee Report Card,” which will allow employees to complete health risk assessments and track wellness program participation with the goal of earning cash rewards.

LOWERING HEALTH COSTS WHILE ENHANCING EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

City of Oviedo’s onsite health center operated by Crowne Consulting Group helps employer improve employee healthcare while lowering medical trend increases.

Feb. 28, 2012 (Ocoee, Fla.) – Crowne Consulting Group, Inc., an employee benefits consulting firm specializing in onsite health and wellness centers in Florida, reports that the City of Oviedo reduced health cost trends by adding a worksite health center for employees.

Since opening the center in March of 2010 in an effort to avoid passing increased health costs to city workers, the City of Oviedo reversed its trend down to just a 2 percent annual increase.  This defies the nation’s average 12 percent annual rise for medical inflation.  Financial savings include all operational costs for the health center, which is co-operated by Ocoee-based Crowne Consulting Group and Tennessee-based CareHere, LLC.

City Manager Kathryn Breazeale believes that over the past two years, employees benefited by receiving free generic medication and health and wellness services provided through the clinic.

Approximately 85 percent of the city’s 245 eligible employees visited the free clinic in the first year for more than 3,000 service appointments including primary care, screenings, chronic disease management, digital X-rays, EKG, and occupational services.  In addition to zero deductibles for services, 80 percent of the city’s employees benefited from free health risk assessments with lab work for evaluation of cholesterol, blood sugar, liver function, and blood pressure.

“Assessing risks early and engaging employees to manage conditions is a contributing factor to thousands of dollars saved for employees and taxpayers,” said Ray Tomlinson, president of Crowne Consulting Group.

In addition, thanks to wholesale rates, the city’s total prescription costs through Crowne and CareHere decreased 8 percent per member.

How Easier Access to Healthcare Lowers Costs

Crowne Consulting Group reports onsite health centers reduce risks and cut costs.

Jan. 18, 2012 (Ocoee, Fla.) – For a large number of governments and municipalities in Florida, employee health centers are just what the doctor ordered.  Adopting the onsite health model is improving quality of employee healthcare while decreasing costs.

Approximately 96 percent of the City of Ocoee’s more than 300 eligible employees utilized HRAs and wellness programs offered at its health center, helping the city prevent high-dollar claims for chronic diseases including diabetes and congestive heart failure.

Prior to hiring Crowne in April 2008, Ocoee faced annual premium increases of 15-24 percent.  Over 6,800 visits at the Ocoee health center and nearly 1000 more visits at its partner center in the City of Apopka occurred within the first two years, saving the city more than $1 million, including more than a 70 percent decrease in workers’ compensation medical costs.

CITY OF SARASOTA OPENS AN ON-SITE CLINIC FOR EMPLOYEES

Worksite health center slated to open for city employees on March 14

March 9, 2011 (Ocoee, Fla.) – Crowne Consulting Group, Inc., an employee benefits consulting firm specializing in on-site medical clinics in Florida, announces that the City of Sarasota’s employee health center will open its doors on March 14. The center will service the city’s employees, dependents, and retiree population.
The center will be located at 237 Payne Parkway, Sarasota, adjacent to Payne Park. Services will include primary care, occupational services, pharmacy, disease management, and wellness services. The clinic will also be the first stop for workers’ compensation triage issues.
